Equality, diversity and inclusion in projects and international research culture
Inclusive cultures are at the heart of innovation and of excellent research. The Inclusion Helix supports the creation of inclusive research environments, both for the researchers involved and as part of the research being undertaken.
Research is never done in a vacuum. International collaborations are the new normal in research, which leads to ever more diverse research teams. Simultaneously, universities, funders and policymakers are increasingly recognizing diversity across a range of protected characteristics; including gender, race, sexuality, ability, age, ethnicity and culture.
Recognizing the value of cultural diversity is a first step in attracting the best talent no matter their background, in ensuring more innovative projects and fostering greater societal impact. The next step is making inclusion and diversity work and maximizing its benefits. That is what the Inclusion Helix is all about.
The Inclusion Helix is committed to exploring how personal characteristics and international culture can be applied, enhanced and recognized in applications, research projects, research teams, collaborations and all other parts of a research project’s lifetime.
The Helix has a particular focus on gender because it is a cross-cutting theme of Horizon Europe, and with that its requirements for Gender Equality Plans. However, our aim is to move beyond gender and create truly inclusive research environments that understand, appreciate and impact the world in all its diversity.
Members will be invited to webinars, share best practice, form partnerships and collaborate on funding proposals and projects.

To highlight the impact that inclusion plays in research projects we celebrate the launch of the Inclusion Helix with the webinar “How diversity can improve your research strategy”. Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) combined with internationalisation is increasingly understood to be at the core of research and research management, and we want to show you how you can use it to strengthen your research strategy and by extension, your research projects and collaborations. Let EDI be a tool in your approach to research strategies at your university, department, your research group and for researchers. In addition, it can support the strategic planning of individual applications. Should you have any questions about the event, please contact us at [email protected]
"Excellent research requires thriving researchers, and inclusion is at the heart of effective international research excellence. Join us as we explore and implement the benefits of an inclusive research environment."
