Bringing expertise on the history of European fascism on which I have published multiple scholarly books and essays.
I would be interested in joining a consortium on the above mentioned topic to explore the ways in which the contemporary Far-Right addresses European identity: both using and abusing the idea. It is vital to address the ambiguity about Europe and its legacy, which is both progressive, in its defense of human and citizen rights, and regressive, mobilizing opposition to immigration and espousing a closed and exclusive European identity (for example, see the case of PEGIDA). This research will assist in understanding the current rise of extremism and its influence on Europe and globally.
Based on this research, policy recommendations for deepening democratic structures and awareness will be drown. The aim will be to counter the extremist narrative by underlining the potential of modernity and defending its normative substance.
