PILOT CASE in GHENT, BELGIUM: BUILDINGS CONNECTED TO DISTRICT HEATING
Looking to join a consortium aiming at 2 upcoming calls:

HORIZON-CL5-2023-D4-01-05: Innovative solutions for cost-effective decarbonization of buildings through energy efficiency and electrification

Action: Electrification of the household heat demand will be covered via heat pumps. The overall district heating system should be controlled smartly, (collective and local) leveraging thermal storage and local electricity production. An energy management platform should be integrated.

HORIZON-CL5-2023-D4-01-14: Demonstration of innovative, large-scale, seasonal heat and/or cooling storage technologies for decarbonisation and security of supply

Action: The partners are looking at extending the current district network with
large-scale collective storage, potentially in combination with geothermal heat for
long-term/seasonal buffering. At the residential side, integration of local storage is also to be considered for increased modularity and flexibility.

Cluster of partners jointly proposing a full pilot case (TRL7) focusing on thermal storage and/or heat pump technology in a residential context.

As involved partners, we can offer expertise in/develop activities from the conceptual design, simulation and modelling, technology integration, demonstration activities, techno-economic assessment, development of artificial intelligence-based tools (monitoring, control and optimisation) and civil society involvement.
